Here's the sitch: Sister to sister, girl to girl. This 16-year-old sister put her own time, money, and effort into saving up for a thoughtful gift for her younger sister's 15th birthday: A set of her dream art supplies. Very cute, very wholesome. However, just days before the big day, she caught her younger sister snooping through her bedroom and opening up the gift. The younger sister's reaction was pure excitement, even if it happened to come a few days early. But her older sister was furious, not just because the surprise was ruined, but because her privacy had been violated. That frustration drove her straight back to the art supply store to return the gift…

Now here's where the interesting debate comes in. Their mother thinks the older daughter was being a bit dramatic by returning the gift, especially after seeing how excited her sister was. But their father sides with the older daughter, saying the only way her sister will learn her lesson is through consequences…Personally, now I don't have a sister, so perhaps I'm biased, as I can't really see my thirteen-year-old brother being interested in anything but football, but I can agree that this reaction may have been a bit dramatic… Maybe I come from a fairly relaxed family, but returning your younger sibling's birthday gift? That's a statement. And last time I checked, disrespecting your siblings before the age of 15 is pretty much standard procedure?

    Missnys NTA- The rule in my house when my brother and I were kids was, "if you know what you're getting, you don't get it" it stopped us snooping as kids. If you snoop in someone else's private spaces and find your present, you don't. get the present. End of conversation.
